Glynn Anderson I was lucky enough to be able to spend four years studying fine art to degree level. An unfortunate by-product of these four years was that I gave up my own art for twenty years! I have always been a visual thinker and relished the exploration of ideas and concepts from painting through to philosophy but something was missing and my engagement with the ‘art world’ left me a little cynical around its corporatization and commercialization. A slick marketing plan and publicity scheme seemed to be more important than anything the artist actually produced.
A few years ago I began to paint after being inspired at a Murray Phillips workshop. The story from there is simple. I find peace and majesty in the natural world around us. When I am in nature I see that I (we) are infinitely smaller and less important than our daily preoccupations lead us to believe and for me this recognition replaces anxiety, worries, stress with quiet contemplation.
When I paint I share my private moments with nature, moments when the world seems a peaceful place. I paint the places I love to be and hope that those who see my work can share my experience of that place and share that peace.
These will always be important features in my art. Additionally, I am continuing to develop portraiture and other ways of seeing and visual representation, some serious and some playful.
